The Keener Podcast - 02/19/05

This week's Keener Podcast featuress an all jingle extravaganza, celebrating those 5 to 10 second logos that helped define a station's image. We have a jingle montage from yesterday and today and an exclusive interview with jingle preservationist Ken R.

    Scott,
I thoroughly enjoyed today's Keener Podcast. The jingles brought back a lot of great memories.
I do have a technical question regarding excessive "buffering" times when listening to these podcasts and some other audio and video files on my computer (Windows XP Home Edition). Regardless of whether it's a Winamp or a Windows Media Player driven file, I only get about 45 seconds of audio, followed by about a minute of buffering, then another 45 secs of audio, etc. Is there anything I can do/install to greatly reduce or eliminate buffering time??? I logged on the Winamp website looking for answers, but couldn't find any. I'd like to listen to a 40-minute podcast in 40 minutes, not almost 2 hours. Are you aware of anyone else having this problem?
    -Thanks!

He Bob, It sounds like you are trying to listen while the file is downloading. Depending on your Internet connection, you can get buffer delays. I recommend right clicking on the file and selecting "save as", then saving the whole file to your drive before listening in Winamp. Try this and let me know how it works.

    Scott,
Your suggestion worked great...no buffering delays in playback, but it did take almost 2 hours for my computer to download the entire 2/19/05 Podcast file. As I'm not very computer literate, are there any aftermarket "add-ons" that I could install on my Compaq Presario Model 4400US to reduce download time (I bought my computer as an "Open-box display" without a manual, so I don't have any reference material)???
    -Thanks!

Scott - Thanx for the great show on jingles. I had a chance to speak with Ken R. this morning and we talked about the old days of radio DXing and the jingles we heard from some of the great AM blow torches. I ordered some CDs and his book. It's great to hear the old air checks on your site and recall the glory days of listening to Keener and the Big 8. You are doing a great job.

Bob, download times are pretty much dependent on your bandwidth? Are you on a cable modem or DSL? If you are on dial-up, it's gonna take a while to get the files.
